Canada’s National Women’s Team unveils centralization schedule


The Rivalry series returns; the schedule also includes matches against Finland, PWHPA All-Star teams and Junior A clubs

CALGARY, Alberta. – Canada’s National Women’s Team has announced its centralization schedule, presented by Sobeys, for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, China.

As part of the six-month trip to Beijing, Canada’s centralized roster of 29 players will face the United States in a nine-game rivalry series that kicks off Oct. 22 in Allentown, Pa. The Canadian leg of the Rivalry Series kicks off on November 21. in Kingston, Ont., followed by a game on November 23 in Ottawa. Edmonton and Red Deer, Alta., Will host the final games in January.

In addition to the Rivalry series, the Olympic preparation calendar includes three games in Finland from November 11-14 and two games against a Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) all-star team in December. It also includes four games against junior A clubs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), in addition to two games against the Trail Smoke Eaters and Cranbrook Bucks of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL ) that took place earlier this month.

“We are incredibly lucky to join the United States, Finland and the AJHL and BCHL teams to help us with our preparations for Beijing,” said Gina Kingsbury, Director of Women’s Hockey Operations at Hockey Canada. . “This four-year Olympic cycle has impacted our schedule and training, and limited our time together as a team. We believe we have come up with a plan that will challenge us physically and give us a level of competition that pushes our team to be at their best. This is the opportunity to assess ourselves as we face high caliber teams, and we are grateful to all of the groups that are a part of our journey.

The Rivalry Series will be the first top competition for Canada’s National Women’s Team since defeating the United States 3-2 in overtime in the gold medal game at the 2021 World Women’s Championship. IIHF, August 31.

From the pond to the podium

Canada’s National Women’s Team is also active in the Pond to Podium Development Series, presented by Canadian Tire. The Development Series is intended for the Rivalry Series and PWHPA games and is designed to connect coaches, players, officials and parents directly with the resources of national team athletes, coaches and staff. It provides hands-on expertise and behind-the-scenes content for all levels of hockey and will include coaching clinics, on-ice skills sessions and panels of National Team athletes.
