Subway® Canada Continues Mission to Help Feed Children in Local Communities with November Never Miss Lunch ™ Donation Campaign

Now in its third year, Subway’s Never Miss Lunch â„¢ program is dedicated to reducing hunger in children Canada working with Food Banks Canada to provide grants to local organizations to purchase fresh food for food insecure children. The November Never Miss Lunch â„¢ campaign will help support initiatives against child hunger in 160 communities in 10 provinces and 3 territories across Canada.

“Community needs differ across the country due to cultural and regional dietary differences. Grants to Food Banks Canada under the Subway Never Miss Lunch program allow local organizations to purchase fresh food that meets the dietary needs of our youth, ”explains David Armor, Interim CEO of Food Banks Canada. “We are very grateful to support partners like Subway Canada who help us deliver new resources to those who need them most.”

Each year, Food Banks Canada receives many more requests for children’s kits than it can supply.

“Over the past year, we’ve seen a rapid increase in the number of people using our food banks,” says June Muir, CEO of UHC – Hub of Opportunities. “The COVID-19 pandemic has left individuals and their families looking for support. With over 7,000 children across WindsorTecumseh who suffer from food insecurity, the support of partners like Subway is imperative to ensure children receive fresh nutritional options. “

Organizations such as Edmonton Food Bank, Windsor UHC – Hub of Opportunities, Moisson Outaouais and Feed Nova Scotia are essential pillars of their local communities and are all recipients of grants provided under the Never Miss Lunch â„¢ program. Over the past two years, 280,000 food packages have been distributed with fresh food through Never Miss Lunch â„¢ grants.

“Every child deserves access to fresh and nutritious food, which is why we are so grateful for the continued support of Subway Canada,” says Karen Theriault, Feed Nova Scotia.

“Hunger is an ongoing challenge that disproportionately affects our most vulnerable. Up to 40 percent of people who turn to food banks are children,” says Tamisan Bencz-Knight with Edmonton Food Bank. “People are drawn to packaged foods and having fresh food options encourages different behavior among young people who now have access to these fresh foods. Through the engagement of partners like Subway’s Never Miss Lunch program, we can increase the fresh options for the people we serve. . “
